Meet Crystal Harter
Nurse Practitioner
Fierce, passionate, straight talker obsessed with all thing’s hormones and women’s midlife health. A Nurse Practitioner with over 12 years total in the healthcare industry from emergency medicine, cardiology and women’s health. Before starting my private practice, I worked in Gynecology managing a variety of women’s health care needs.
Working in women’s healthcare fueled my passion for creating a platform that tailors to midlife women’s needs especially during perimenopause and menopause. I felt like no one in medicine was owning the space. I have built my entire practice to address women’s midlife concerns instead of dismissing them.
Why did I start my own private practice in Newburgh, NY
I wanted deeper relationships with fewer patients. Seeing a patient every 15 minutes to the tune of 20 + patients a day was not serving me or my patients. I wanted to provide patients the time they deserve to sit down and really talk to me. I want to practice medicine the way it should be more listening then talking- without unsolicited advice and pushback from insurance companies dictating my patients’ treatments.

About My Practice
This is a boutique private practice with a concierge style approach to customized care designed to meet women’s midlife needs. The mission is to empower women in midlife, so they are equipped with real, science-backed advice on perimenopause and menopause. I offer one-on-one appointments that allow all the time my patients need to address their health concerns. I listen, coach, and act as your expert guide to midlife health.
We will work together every step of the way ensuring a transformative experience that is as friendly as it is effective. Using shared decision-making, I listen carefully to patients’ medical history, symptoms, and health goals to provide therapeutic options and, ultimately, a plan of action using hormone therapy.
This is healthcare reimagined.
In my practice we embrace longevity and proactive wellness during a woman’s midlife. It is personalized treatment care designed around you, for you. Every patient of mine has direct access to me 24/7.
Though operating out of the Hudson Valley Beauty Lab and Medi Spa establishment, my practice is a separate entity and my services are provided directly and through only me.

The Process
Includes an initial, in depth, 60 minute consultation and lab orders (if needed). We will discuss your concerns, symptom’s, go over medical and mental history and develop a gameplan that will help you achieve your goals. If a candidate, I will submit necessary scripts to your pharmacy in which you can pick up and pay for directly or through insurance. We will set up a follow up consultation to discuss the outcomes of your initial round of treatment and adjust accordingly. This is a process and can often take a series of consultations and adjustments before we reach our desired result.
Typically a Follow Up Consultation is 30 minutes. We review your current treatment plan and discuss feedback on symptoms. We continue to perfect the treatment plan one hormone at a time until we successfully customized a hormone therapy regimen that is working to address your concerns. I aim for a 70% improvement in your symptoms. Once we have found a regimen that is meeting your needs, we will be at maintenance and seeing each other every couple of months to touch base and provide refills as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
A. Depending on your individual insurance plan, coverage will vary. The medications
that are prescribed to you are FDA approved options and are available for pick up at
your local pharmacy, these include the use of bioidentical hormones
I do not used compounded hormones as first line treatment. I only work with compounding pharmacies when a hormone does not have an FDA approved option.
Example – Testosterone. In the US there is not an FDA approved Testosterone for women, in this case I use a compounding pharmacy. I also use a compounding pharmacy if there is an allergy to an ingredient that needs to be compounded out.
A. I am always available for questions during or after normal business hours via phone or the patient portal. Patients are scheduled for regular follow up appointments 4 weeks after the initial appointment to re-evaluate symptoms and to adjust the treatment plan. Every time an adjustment is made a patient is scheduled for a 4 week follow up to again assess symptoms and make necessary changes, routine follow ups will continue until the patient and provider are happy with the current treatment plan. We will then be on a maintenance plan seeing each other every 3 months.
A. Symptomatic relief varies depending on the symptoms and specific hormone regimen prescribed. Most patients will feel some relief in days to weeks after treatment, with most patients getting the most benefit around 3 months. Every patient is unique and response times to hormones may vary.
A. As with any medication there is always possibilities of side effects, we will consult you on these possible side effects during your consult based on the specific treatment regimen that is prescribed to you. Many of the side effects of HRT are temporary and usually are fully resolved by 8-12 weeks after starting. When starting any new medication our bodies need to time adjust. We typically suggest the first 3 months are the time for your new HRT to settle in. It is possible to feel worse before you feel better which can be very frustrating and leave you feeling uncertain, but just remember this is an adjustment phase and just temporary, we will be working closely together every couple weeks to dial in the treatment plan.
A. Blood work and saliva tests are not necessary before treatment. Treatment plans are always based on symptoms of the patient and not a lab number. Lab work during perimenopause is unreliable as hormones are very volatile and fluctuate often. Doing bloodwork prior to treatment during menopause can be helpful to get a starting baseline but is not necessary. Bloodwork will always be drawn prior to starting testosterone to obtain a baseline level.
A. Estrogen may cause you to retain water, which can lead to temporary weight gain. Progesterone also tends to cause bloating and cramping. However, HRT has not been shown to lead to weight gain. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can help maintain stable body weight by addressing hormonal imbalances that can lead to weight gain.
A. Estrogen can cause side effects like the discomforts of menstruation, including:
• Leg cramps
• Headaches
• Water retention
• Acne
Progesterone can cause:
• Tender and swollen breasts
• Fatigue
• Irritability, worsening depression and in severe cases suicidal thoughts
• Irregular bleeding
